Into the Gray

Session Summary

A sudden goblin attack at the small town of Valdethirsk brings us all together as a group. We take no prisoners.

Log

We begin in the small mining encampment of Valdethirsk. It is 10am, just after breakfast. The miners are cleaning up and preparing to go work.

Arachne is giggling to herself as she looks down the well.

I’m trying to learn how to make it look like I’m juggling with fire.

Star is brooding in the break room.

Twinkletoes is practicing lute.

Elzara just checked on Twinkletoes and is on her way back out of the sleeping area.

A large bang at the primary entrance alerts us to forced entry.

Star jumps into stealth.

Elzira races to the door of the breakroom. He prepares to throw Fire Bolt.

Wash walks out of the dining room and notches an arrow, using the door for cover.

The door continues to shake and crack beneath the pressure. One more hit will probably break through the door. 

Arachne runs towards the door, preparing to cast Sacred Flame on the first hostile creature she sees.

Twinkletoes cracks open the door in the sleeping area.

Elzara walks towards the door as well, in front of Arachne. She prepares to attack with her hammer.

Pharèl moves forward and continues menacingly juggling fire and prepares to throw a Fire Bolt at the first creature he sees.

Star rushes over to ask Elzira to ask what he sees through the door. He waits, ready to spring.

Elzira offers Star the spot at the door cause he’s afraid. They both have a weird stand-off.

The goblins break open the door. There are guys carrying a battering ram in front and archers in the back. Three arrows bounce off of Elzara. One arrow strikes for -6 damage.

Elzara and Wash both take out a goblin each. I hit one with Fire Bolt for 2 damage.

Twinkletoes viciously mocks one of the goblins with an insult about being unshaven. It takes 3 psychic damage and has disadvantage on its next roll.

Elzara strikes with her hammer for 4 damage.

Arachne attacked an archer and missed, then cast healing on Elzara +7 hit points.

Pharèl shoots Fire Bolt at another goblin and destroys it.

The goblin that was attacked by the dwarf swings at her. It’s so angry that it misses its first swing, the second swing was even worse. 

Star stealthily steps out of the room and shoots an archer down. 

Elzira casts a Ray of Frost for 2 damage.

Eight goblins remain.

Wash shoots another arrow but the leather armor of the goblin reflects it.

The goblins go to attack Elzara and shoot their arrows. Elzara takes -6 damage.

The melee goblin attacks for -5 damage.

Twinkletoes viciously mocks another goblin, dealing 2 damage, meaning he has disadvantage on his next attack roll. She then casts Healing Word for +5 hit points to Elzara.

Elzara swings her hammer and misses.

Arachne hits a goblin for 1 damage Sacred Flame and casts +5 Healing Word on Elzara.

I yeet another Fire Bolt, completely destroying another goblin, it bursts into flames writhing on the ground in death screams.

The melee goblin misses Elzara.

Star aims for an archer with his shortbow, dealing 5 damage.

Elzira, still hidden in the other room, casts Mage Armor on himself granting him 17 AC for the next 8 hours.

Wash sends another arrow to an archer, dealing 10 damage. The targeted goblin sees himself being fired at grabs another goblin to use it as a shield. The goblin he grabs dies instantly. The original target has opened up an opportunity attack, but Elzara swings and misses. He prepares to draw his sword.

Five goblins notch their arrows, continuing to fire at Elzara without hitting. One drops an arrow on the ground, and bends over to pick it up (prone). 

Twinkletoes tells the goblins they look like frogs, dealing 4 damage. She then gives Elzara Bardic Inspiration.

Elzara steps up to attack the non-archer, missing even with inspiration.

Arachne is back at it again at Krispy Kremes, casting Sacred Flame. The targeted goblin dodges.

I hit the leader goblin with Fire Bolt for 1 damage. He then swings his scimitar at Elzara for -4 damage. He swings again, but misses.

Star runs up to make an attack. He shoots and completely obliterates another goblin archer’s head. He runs in to yell at Elzira to come help us.

Elzira steps out of the door and throws a Fire Bolt for 9 damage. The goblin is incinerated.

Wash draws his sword and runs up to another one of the archers. He swings and misses.

Three archers and the last melee goblin leader remains. Two archers both use a bonus action to use nimble escape, disengaging and stepping away from Wash without prompting opportunity attacks. Both then fire at Wash, dealing -9 damage.

The other archer shoots at Elzara and misses.

Twinkletoes mocks another goblin but the goblin is unaffected, but then inspires Elzara again.

Elzara strikes out with her Warhammer, dealing 6 damage. He dashes and rolls and knocks his friend goblin into the swing. The other goblin takes the hit. She uses her Second Wind bonus action to regain 10 hit points. 

Arachne races forwards to cast Sacred Flame at the leader goblin for 2 radiant damage.

I throw another Fire Bolt at the leader goblin, but he dexterously moves out of my line of fire. 

The Goblin Leader uses his disengage attack and sprints out, yelling “Retreat!” to his remaining goblins.

 Star steps forward and takes out one of the remaining archers.

Elzira comes forward to the door and Nat 20 crits a Fire Bolt at the Goblin Leader for 16 damage. In a blaze of screaming, terrified sound, he becomes a pillar of fire and turns to ash.

Wash runs to one of the archers and stabs with his short sword, dealing 6 damage.

The last remaining goblin disengages to move to the corner and then shoots at Wash, but misses.

 Twinkletoes moves forward. 

Elzara moves forward. She yeets a torch at the goblin. The goblin ducks behind the wall as she does this. 

Arachne moves forward outside and sees the goblin at the end of the building. She yeets Sacred Flame at him for 2 damage. 

Star runs out to where the goblin only has half cover. He takes aim with his shortbow, dealing 5 damage. The goblin is pretty badly wounded.

Elzira runs out to cast Fire Bolt, dealing 9 damage. After yeeting this fire, he checks his nails.

“I wonder what they wanted,” says Arachne.
