Into the Gray

Session Summary

DREAM STATE: We are not ourselves. We are racing through a building, trying to get down stairs, through doors and rooms. There is screaming behind a locked door, which Natsu throws himself at. Someone inside notes loudly that they have unwelcome visitors. Inside, we find a mage and several unwell people chained to stone beds. Our blows do not seem to deal much, if any, damage to the mage. In short order, the mage freezes several of our party in place, leaving only three standing to attempt to take the mage down.

We wake up having come down stairs and stand in front of a door.

I attempt to push the door open. It seems to be locked. I begin to try and unlock it. As I do this, Natsu rushes the door. Natsu slams into the door, but it seems the door has a sturdier construction than his body. Meanwhile, I have failed to pick the lock.

Widipi hacks at the door with the axe. They get a pretty solid chunk through the door. 

I carefully reach my hand through to attempt to open it from inside. I open the door! Inside, we can see the next room. As we enter the room, to our right (the south) we hear screaming.

Natsu begins running off to the noise. Skip follows him down. 

They approach a door. Natsu throws himself at it to get through unsuccessfully. 

As we catch up, a voice snaps through “What is it! This had better be important!”

“What’s all the screaming about?”

“Ah, it would appear we have unwanted visitors.” 

I attempt to pick the lock from a distance with my mage hand. I fail miserably. 

Gregory notches an arrow. The voice on the other side says “Don’t worry, I’ll open the door soon!” and we can hear them preparing spells.

Skip busts open the door.

On the other side is a mage of some sort. There are several stone beds with people chained to them who have seen better days.

Skip stabs a man (roll 19) and attempts to deal 6 damage.

As the door opens, Gregory can see the mage and lets an arrow fly. Unfortunately, it misses (roll 14).

I race up in stealth using my small stature and attack the mage. I scrape against his skin, but it seems that my 13 damage is not having an effect. 

Sasha strikes with her lance, trying to deal 15 damage. 

Mara casts Hunter's Mark and swings with her greatsword. This attempts to deal 12 damage.

Natsu runs over to punch him in the face with Fire Fist. He misses.

Gregory shoots another arrow. He misses.

The mage begins to move and takes 5 thunder damage, 13 slashing from Mara, 9 piercing from Skip, and 28 damage (radiant, piercing) from Sasha.

He begins walking up the next stairway, and says “Wait… I should check this spell first,” 

Everyone makes a constitution saving throw, except for Gregory who is safe in the back. We are hit by a cold blast.

Mara: 1, Skip: 14, Natsu: 23, Me: 19, Sasha: 17

Sasha, Mara, and Skip are frozen but revivable. Natsu and I are still kicking (barely). 

I use my invisible mage hand to loop a rope around his feet as a booby trap. Meanwhile, I run up for a hail mary attack and deal 6 damage, again against stony skin.
