Session Summary

The group splits up to gather information. I visit several eateries to make contacts with local restaurateurs. Star reminds us about the shiny mouse, which may be a person living underground nearby. We decide to talk to the innkeeper about finding a historian and learn that there is no library, but there is someone who knows a lot about history. We meet with the historian named April, who offers to treat us to lunch and tells us about the history of New Flavem. We learn that the city has an issue with magic and requires a license, and that the city was named after a town on a different continent. Elzira discovers an old legend of a golden mouse that would visit people in their dreams and bestow good fortune. We later meet up with the others at a bar to exchange information.

Log

I visit several eateries to meet local restaurateurs. I make some contacts through the city this way. I am very convincing about my skills, though I might be overselling myself very confidently. #relationships

Arachne is absent from breakfast.

Star reminds us that we found the shiny mouse. It turns out that it is probably a person living underground nearby. #clues

Elzira remembers that druids exist and can turn into animals.

We decide to talk to the innkeeper and find out whether there is a library. We learn there is no library. There is someone who knows a lot about history.

Star asks about going to a bar, and is shown Half Pint. Elzara is down to go for a drink.

They go to the Schwartz Smithy. The dwarf gruffly asks “What can I do for you son?”

“CALL ME SON ONE MORE TIME!” Star screams. “No… I really need a father figure.”

Schwartz turns to Elzara and says in Dwarvish something we don’t get to see. Elzara responds in Dwarvish.

Meanwhile, we are visiting the historian’s house, named April

We learn April is interested in helping us but wants to go through a scroll of financial transactions from the war. We determine the industry and physically place the building from which the items in question were sold.

She wants to go into town to get some paperwork. We follow as she runs into a records building. She is able to offer the pre-war year to the receptionist and comes back out with a piece of paper.

Relevant Clue from Flashback

Once back, April does some cross checking and says “I knew it!” It turns out that the company was either embezzling or being used as a front.

She offers to treat us to lunch and tell us about the history of New Flavem

We learn that Conqel in general has an issue with magic. New Flavem is one of the least strict areas of magic.  We learn you can get a Magic License. I ask how to get one of those. There is a government building that gives out licenses. We have to be able to give a good reason and some documentation about our responsible use of magic and that we have no criminal record. ^f1232a

We could perhaps get a license as adventurers to break up a fight. Generally speaking, self-defense is allowable.

We also learn that the city was named after a town on a different continent. Nobody’s had any contact with the other town. New Flavem is one of the oldest cities. The documents show that the shape of the town was based on the home country city.

I ask about mice and symbolism. She doesn’t know about anything.

We decide to look through the papers for anything. Within a few hours of skimming through April’s many books, Elzira runs into a passage that mentions a golden mouse that would visit people in their dreams and bestow them with good fortune.

April says that the book is at least several hundred years old. So this is a pretty old legend. At least 250 years before the war.

I ask about her view on magic and she mostly has an anthropological interest.

She talks about the druids who maintain the roads. I ask where they live. She tells us it’s mostly near the hotels. Basically, the housing for the druids was intended to be close to the roads. ^d266ae

We go to meet the others at the bar. We catch up and exchange information.
