Session Summary

We encounter 11 owlbears as the stars are coming out. The owlbears charge at us, and we immediately start fighting. Elzara and Elzira deal heavy damage to them using their hammers and spells, respectively. Star casts Faerie Fire, and I cast Slow on them. Arachne's illusions and spells keep them busy, but they inflict heavy damage on us. Elzara manages to take down several owlbears, and Twinkletoes uses healing magic to revive the downed party members. We finally manage to defeat the owlbears, but not without taking significant damage.

The stars are coming out.

In the not so great distance, we see a friendly familiar set of 11 owlbears. They are in three groups and we all notice each other at the same time.

Initiative

The owlbears immediately begin charging us.

Elzara uses Giant Might. She runs up to smash one with a hammer, and hits one for 13 damage.  

Elzira casts Shatter at a group of Owlbears, dealing 9 Thunder damage. She backs up and gives me Bardic Inspiration.

Star’s owl flies back behind the group of owlbears.

Elzira casts Fire Ball towards 9 of the owlbears, for 29 damage. It looks like a few partially shield themselves, but most of the group takes full fire.

Star casts Faerie Fire over most of the group.  Three of them are affected and are glowing blue.

I cast Slow on a group of six near Elzara. I can see that I successfully affected five of them. I move to the back line to be in a better position. SLOW - 10

Arachne yells “Natana, I need you!” and she will invoke Duplicity. There is an illusory duplicate of her standing by Elzara. She retreats back slightly. She casts Spiritual Weapon near a group of owlbears. It attacks one of the slowed bears, striking for 9 damage.

The two owlbears closest to Elzara slash at her, both missing. Another owlbear nearby attacks, dealing 8 damage with its beak and 18 damage with its claws. Three other owlbears swing at Arachne’s illusion. One last owlbear misses at Elzara.

Elzara swings towards the most active looking owlbear. She deals 21 damage. This completely destroys the owlbear. She walks away from the slowed owlbears to take a breather. She takes a Second Wind, regaining 12 health.

Twinkletoes attempts to perform Shocking Grasp, but fails.

The owl caws.

Elzira casts a ray of frost at the owlbear directly in front of me, but misses.

Star aims at the same owlbear and misses. 

I use Green Flame Blade to strike the owlbear, dealing 17 damage to him and 11 damage to the one behind him. I run away and spend 2 Sorcery Points to cast Fire Bolt to the owlbear who I just attacked as he looks to be on his last legs. He’s hanging on by a thread.  SLOW - 9

Arachne casts Inflict Wounds on the Owlbear in the cluster not affected by Slow. She deals 9 damage. She misses with the Spiritual Weapon. She walks over to two of the Owlbears near Twinkletoes and shouts “Hey!” 

One bear successfully deals 6 damage to Twinkletoes, the second bear deals her 15 damage. The owlbears near Arachne turn around to face her and attack. She takes 20 damage from its claws, but maintains her concentration. It crits with its beak, dealing her 20 damage. The other owlbear sees Arachne being dead and runs over to Elzara. It deals 24 damage to her. Another runs over and just falls over, taking 3 damage from the fall. The other bears begin to swarm Elzara.

Elzara strikes down the weakest owlbear with 7 damage. She attacks the owlbear nearest to the right, dealing 6 total damage. She uses Action Surge to strike again for another 10 total damage. She moves over towards Arachne’s body.

Twinkletoes casts Shatter, dealing 11 or half damage to the owlbears directly in front of her. She casts Healing Word for 7 healing, stabilizing Arachne.

The owl goes to help Arachne get up.

In a stunning display of bravery, Elzira yells “Stay away from me!” and runs towards the owlbears, casting Thunderwave. He tries to draw attention to himself with the owlbears and prepares to cast Thunderwave, and then to Misty Step away. 

Star attacks the blue shining owlbear near Elzara dealing 18 damage. 

I use 20 feet of movement and Fey Step and deal 4 fire damage to the owlbears within 4 feet of me. I strike down the glowing blue owlbear with 15 damage.  SLOW -  8

Arachne gains 1 HP through an action by rolling a CON throw, and uses half of her movement to stand up. She staggers up and casts Mass Healing Word for 4 healing for the entire party.

Twinkletoes takes 29 damage. She is down. 

They turn at me and one misses, the other misses with its claws but succeeds at its peck. Elzara invokes Protection, but it still hits me. It deals 11 damage. I manage to maintain concentration for Slow.

 Three slowed owlbears run at Elzara. Two go towards Elzara, dealing 15 damage. Elzara is down.

Elzira’s Thunderwave triggers, dealing 10 or half damage. Two take half and the other is full damage and moves back 10 feet. Elzira Misty Steps away and runs off. 

Elzara fails a death saving throw. Twinkletoes survives a saving throw. The owl goes towards Elzara. 

Elzira attacks the most wounded looking owlbear near me. He deals 17 fire damage. It’s looking pretty poor.

Star also attacks the weakest owlbear and hits it for 21 damage, killing it. 

I strike the owlbear in front of me for 8 damage. I use my remaining 2 Sorcery Points to quicken Chromatic Orb, dealing 15 damage to the remaining non Slow owlbear. SLOW -  7

Arachne casts Spirit Guardians, for a possible 11 or half radiant damage. The owlbear is looking terrible. She runs towards me with her radius. She casts Healing Word on herself for 6 healing.

The owlbear runs towards us, entering the radiant damage orb again, taking 15 damage. It’s dead. The other owlbears begin to approach us. 

Elzara fails another saving throw. Twinkletoes fails another saving throw. 

Elzira hits an approaching owlbear for 4 damage.

Star rushes over to Twinkletoes to attempt to stabilize her, and does so successfully. 

I rush over to stabilize Elzara using my healer’s kit. She is stable. SLOW -  6

Arachne comes to join us. She’s frustrated by her choice of healing spells. She casts Guiding Bolt, but misses. She casts 5 healing Healing Word for Twinkletoes.

The owlbears advance. They rush into the ring of Spiritual Guardians (16 or half damage), which stacks on slowing. One owlbear dies by angels. The other makes it in and swings at Star, but misses. On the top, they advance as well. The three enter the ring, taking the brunt of the damage.

Elzara wakes up with a 25 CON saving throw with 1 HP. She starts swinging. She deals 16 damage. She invokes her fire rune. It’s on fire and restrained. 

Twinkletoes casts Fire Bolt and kills a nearby owlbear with 15 damage. She gives Arachne Bardic Inspiration. 

The owl chills out. 

Elzira aims for the glowing owlbear, dealing 10 damage. It dies!

Star stabs at the nearest owlbear with his rapier, dealing 25 damage. It dies!

I smack the remaining owlbear for 8 damage. SLOW -  6

Arachne casts Guiding Bolt for 13 damage and kills the last owlbear, then kisses her holy symbol and falls to the ground. Star catches her.

Star and I look for shelter, where Twinkletoes can set up Tiny Hut. We find somewhere cozy that even has water with fish we can look for in the morning. I’m able to harvest some owlbear for us to eat in the morning, if we want. Elzira casts Alarm so we all will awaken if anyone bothers us.

We begin our long rest at 10pm, and we will awaken at 6am.
