Session Summary
We find our way down into a bunker, which starts out with a pantry and leads to a secret door. We have to scale a wall down a stream of water, which has old humanoid bones at the bottom. Some get wet, which is a miserable condition. We cross over a bridge and Star gets hit by a trap. Elzara triggers the rest of the traps intentionally. In another room we find chests, which are rigged and I get hit by daggers. Star uses mage hand to disarm them and finds loot and strong weapons, which are distributed to Star, Wash, Elzara, Arachne, and Twinkletoes.
Log
Including the entrance, there are three doors. Star goes to investigate.
One of the doors seems rigged to a trap. The other door looks locked. He tries to unlock the locked door, and does so!
Once through the door, a rancid smell enters his nose. It smells like rotting food. Very gross.
It looks like this was used as a pantry.
He manages to get into the other door and disarm the trap. There is a set of stairs that goes down.
We all begin to go down the stairs.
There are torches unlit on the wall. Wash walks towards the back of the group and lights them as we walk.
Arachne hisses “You need to be more careful,” to Star who is leading the group and gives him the Trickster’s Blessing.
He says, “I wanted to make sure that Elzara didn’t lose her shield, and that bedroll is the last thing I have from my mother. And this flute.”
Arachne softens, realizing he is not lying. She just reiterates, “Be. More. Careful. Okay?”
There are a couple of barrels right at the bottom of the stairs.
We all notice that there is the sound of running water further into the room. Me, Elzara, Star, and Twinkletoes can tell it sounds fairly quiet, but it sounds like a narrow rushing water.
Around the first corner is another small corridor room. There are a few more barrels. I bump the side of the barrel with the butt of my hand to see what might be in them. Something inside moves a little bit, almost like a bunch of sticks readjusting. Star tells me he thinks it’s just rotting food.
At this point we come to what appears to be a dead end.
Star looks for a way through to the sound of water, finding nothing. Elzira comes up to help investigate. “Aw gee,” he says. However, he is able to find the secret button.
NOTE: Elzira gets +10 to all similar contraptions in this dungeon.
The wall opens up and we can see the body of water we heard before.
I run up to see what’s up and down the water. It’s all water as far as I can see. On the far end, there is a sheer looking drop. The water is about waist deep but moving pretty fast.
Star comes up and also has a look, touching his hand to the water to see how fast the water is going. He can see a bit further than I can. Just out of my own sight he can see a pillar. The water is cold and swift.
Before carrying on, I pry open the barrels with my crowbar. It looks like it’s more torches and some short walking sticks. I ask who wants one, and Twinkletoes asks for one, so I toss it to her.
Wash lays out his plans with the pitons. Star casts Dancing Lights so he can see as he makes his way down the water corridor to hammer them into the walls.
He jumps down into the water and effortlessly makes his way down the water to the pillar. He anchors himself and looks around the corner. There is a landing area around the corner.
I fail my first attempt and the rope keeps me from going off into the distance. The second time, I manage to find my rhythm to make it over to the pillar. I jump over to the landing. There is a door and rushing water into the distance.
Elzira basically falls first into the water under his own power, but thanks to Star, does not actually faceplant. He finally is able to make it over.
I look around at the door but find nothing.
Elzara powers her way up the water no problem and gets a high five from Wash at the end. “Martial classes, yeah!” he says.
Those of us who have been in the water are cold and damp.
Twinkletoes practically dances across the top of the water with no issues. Arachne delicately makes her way across.
The landing is getting crowded. Elzara holds Twinkletoes on her shoulders to make space.
Star runs over. Wash stares at him angrily. “You’re supposed to get the pitons.” Star sulks and goes back to pick up the pitons and the rope on his way over at the back.
Star has a look north and south. To the north is a bridge. To the south is a little indentation. It almost looks like a sewer line.
Elzira goes to check the door. He is able to tell it is not trapped. It is locked. It opens away from us.
Star unlocks the door and opens it. It opens into a small little hallway and turns right after 10 feet. He checks for traps. He sees nothing. We carry down the hallway.
He hears a clicking sound as he proceeds down the hallway. An arrow flies out of the wall in front of him, hitting him for 10 damage.
“There are traps, Star’s hit!” I say back to the group.
Arachne touches him for 4 HP. “I just told you to be more careful.”
I look where he stepped when he was shot. On the ground, I can see that the floor looks a little more depressed than the areas around it. I point out where the floor looks different to Star.
Star pushes for us to try to go to the bridge.
Wash and I want to rest and warm up and eat. We get the rest of the group to do so.
Star investigates during this time. Down the way he sees the back of a chair. He notices no traps.
Sylvia says she would rather not have wet pants when he tells us about this and says we could go that way instead.
Star investigates the corpses in the water. Both look pretty stuck and are uninteresting. He asks to borrow my quarterstaff and I outright refuse. He is offended.
He is sopping wet and the rest of us are dry at this point. He heats up his pants using Prestidigitation.
Elzara takes up the front with two shields.
I look around for bricks to fill in the hole but find none.
As Elzara moves forward and triggers another arrow. Her dual shield works to block it.
Twinkletoes uses her walking stick to try and nudge the crossbow trap to move it so it can’t hit anyone else when triggered.
There is a door to the left. The door opens from the top side in. Elzara investigates it for traps.
She carefully looks and the most obvious thing is that the door is locked. It does appear that there is a trap connected to it. Whatever it triggers will be on the other side of the door. Alternatively it might smash through the door.
I ask Star to use Mage Hand to open the door and let Elzara step out of the way. He first unlocks the door and then tries to open the door.
Star is able to not trigger any traps on his way to the door. He is unable to unlock it. I offer to try if I can borrow the thieves tools but he says no because I didn’t let him use my staff.
Arachne is able to unlock the door. She backs up slowly.
The Mage Hand now can open the door. We hear the sound of something swinging as the door opens. There is the sound of a spring and something being pulled back.
Elzara squeezes through the door with her shields and hears an arrow whizzing on the other side of the wall once she steps through. She yells at us not to move the door or it will trigger traps again.
As she moves forward, there is a room to the south and a hallway to the north. She checks for traps again. In the room to the south looks to be a bunch of random storage. Some boxes and chests. Miscellaneous storage that looks like there may be valuable things within. She moves north. To the north she sees what looks to be a desk. There are two training dummies next to the wall.
Star moves into the room to the south and investigates and looks for a way through the wall to the south.
I go to open some of the chests.
For a brief moment I think “How odd, the chest isn’t locked.” When I open it up, a bunch of small knives fly out and I attempt to dodge them, but they hit me for 5 damage. I slap back at the chest.
Elzira comes to investigate the wall. He sees nothing. He then investigates the boxes and chests. He can tell that they are all trapped to go off when opened. He can see from the already opened chest that the floor was moved at some point. The floor under the chest is higher than where it should be.
Star uses mage hand to move the false bottom. He finds 50gp. He suggests we all leave the room and uses mage hand to open the rest of them. #income
He opens them up and finds different fancy weapons - two longswords (1 Star, 1 Wash), a warhammer (Elzara), a collection of 20 arrows (Star), a dagger (Star), a shortsword (Twinkletoes), and a mace (Arachne). #items
