Into the Gray

Session Summary

On the 10th day of Twott, year 5372, we arrive at a campsite Wash found with water and trees, and catch some fish. During my shift, I hear the far-off otherworldly wshrieking sounds again, and see the ground being disturbed in the distance. Later, Star sees 21 owlbears heading towards the oasis but they leave after sniffing around and finding no fish. We start our journey again the next day and Wash senses 6 owlbears to the south. We jog northeast but the owlbears suddenly change direction towards us. We engage them in battle and win.

We stop to rest. I prepare the food and it’s pretty good. Wash looks for somewhere safe but can’t find any, but at least pings the area and there doesn’t seem to be anything nearby.

It passes uneventfully. We carry on.

Wash keeps an eye out for other creatures.

After four hours of travel, we see familiar figures to the north in the distance. They are the metal munchers, there are only two of them.

We arrived at the campsite successfully. Wash manages to actually find something! He is able to discover a spot with water, it’s a nice oasis with trees and fish.

Star uses Mage Hand to try and catch a fish but fails. Arachne also tries to grab a fish. Wash messes with Star as he shoots a fish, but Star manages to hit it still.

Wash uses an illusion to get all the fish together on one end for catching easier. I cook them at an average level. Star adds a salt and lemon flavor using Prestidigitation. #cooking

Twinkletoes casts Tiny Hut.

Star takes the second half and I watch the first half. Arachne takes a shift with me.

During the second half of my shift, I can see the ground being disturbed in the distance. More concerningly, the far off noises I heard the other night of otherworldly Shrieking are happening again. #clues

Arachne asks her deity if there is a god-fight. She gets no response.

The noises carry on uncomfortably long. By the time it’s Star’s shift they have stopped.

Arachne asks to be told if there is horrendous hell Shrieking in the middle of the night. Star is a little disturbed.

Star sees 21 owlbears heading north from the south. They appear to be approaching the oasis. They approach and come to get water and fish. They do not find any fish. They are sniffing around. They investigate my cooking site. Eventually they head off towards the north. #clues

I cook up rations for breakfast. I make it very deliciously, and Star once again helps with the seasoning. Anyone who lets me cook their rations gets 2 temporary HP. #cooking #tempboons

We start the journey!

Wash actively pings for enemies. About 2 hours into our journey on the 10th day of Twott, year 5372, 9am, Wash senses 6 owlbears to the south.

Wash encourages us to jog out of their path to the Northeast. The owlbears ignore us and keep traveling on their way. As far as we can tell, we’ve put enough distance between us and the owlbears.

 At the edge of their range, they suddenly change direction, which is where we were previously. We can see that they are now headed in our direction.

Twinkletoes casts Long Strider. We decide to prepare for them and ambush them.

I prepare to cast Slow as soon as they’re in range. Star casts Minor Illusion as a rock and hides inside it.

I effect three of the owlbears. SLOW 1

Twinkletoes casts Fire Bolt.

Elzara takes a step and prepares to hit.

Wash blasts. He hits for 21 damage total.

Star shoots an arrow. He hits. He deals 23 damage.

A bunch of owlbears pile up on Elzara.

Elzara’s prepared attack triggers. She smashes the one we’ve attacked and it dies!

Arachne steps forward and casts Spirit Guardians around Elzara and herself.

I run up and use Green-Flame Blade and deal 7+9 damage to the first one and 5 damage to the second. I run back to my station.

Twinkletoes lands 11+7 damage with her crossbow.

Elzara goes Giant and deals 9+6+4 damage and slays another one.

Wash keeps blasting. He deals 6 damage.

Star shoots again for 11 damage.

The owlbear up close takes 15 radiant damage. It then attacks Elzara. One claw hits for 9 damage.

The others dash in and all take radiant damage.

Arachne casts Guiding Bolt from Level 2, dealing 25 damage. She casts Spiritual Weapon for 8 damage, killing another.

I run in with my staff again dealing 14 damage to one, 10 damage to another.

Twinkletoes kills one after 6 damage with her crossbow, and deals another 6 damage.

Elzara smashes again and deals 13 total damage.

Wash backs up and hits one, dealing 11+2 damage.

Star shoots again and deals 21 damage, killing off another.

The owlbear misses its turn and takes 7 damage.

Arachne casts Guiding Bolt and deals 28 damage, and then 4 damage with Spiritual Weapon.

I missed my turn.

Twinkletoes takes it down with her crossbow.

It’s around 9:30 am.
