Into the Gray

Session Summary

Elzira disappear. We search for a place to camp but don't find one. Star's hawk scouts for enemies, and we put distance between us and the bone snakes. We rest in a nook and manage to sneak by the snakes. After four hours, we encounter two owlbears, which we defeat, and Star prepares the meat. During the watch, Star sees Umber Hulks and hears unholy shrieking. Arachne attempts to contact her deity but is met with silence. We notice something off about the air and see a flash of light in the distance. We inform April of the strange occurrences, and she says the strange air is normal.

Elzira disappears. I look for somewhere to camp, but don’t find anything.

Star uses his hawk to scout for enemies.

We put distance between us and the snakes. We lay low. We wind up behind a hill.

Star’s bird can see that the bone snakes are heading our way again, as if they’re searching for us.

Star guesses that they do have a sense of sight.  ^2da1e2

The snakes are traveling southeast to northwest. We travel north east. As we travel, it appears they’re not catching onto our new direction.

Arachne finds a nook and we attempt to take a short rest. After a few more minutes we can see that the snakes are looking around where we were earlier and they are trying to find our tracks. From they way they're looking around and the amount of time they spend, it doesn’t seem they’re finding our trail.

We manage to get a short rest in our nook.

I manage to go from 12 to 32 HP. It’s about 2:30pm. We manage to sneak by the boney boys.

After about four hours, heading from the south closer than we wish, we see what looks to be two owlbears. We know that they’ll get to us anyways so we get ready to take them down.

Star goes into his fake rock and starts attacking. He deals 18, 24, 16, 17, 21 damage before they even get close enough for the rest of us.

We roll initiative. I deal 19 damage with Fire Bolt. This kills the one with arrows in it!

Star hits for 19 damage. I hit again for 16 damage. Twinkletoes hits for 11 damage. Star kills it with 23 damage.

Star begins skinning and preparing the meat from the owlbear. I cook a great meal which grants us +2 temp HP in the morning. #cooking #tempboons

During the first watch, Star sees 10 Umber Hulks head up north early in the night. Around 1-2am Star hears the unholy Shrieking again. #clues

2 hours in: the most interesting thing that happens during my shift is that there’s a bit of rumbling underground digging. If it’s one of the creatures we’re familiar with, it’s probably the gray sand shark things.  #clues

3 hours in: I think I see in the distance to the east, there’s a brief moment I think I see a flash of light like a signal. It flashes three times in rapid succession. It’s around 5am, very early in the morning. It looked pretty far in the distance. #clues

Arachne attempts to contact her deity and is met with silence.

Star’s hawk can see that Perfrind is about one more day’s travel.

Star and Elzara have noticed something is a little off about the air. It’s faint. Imagine how you’d smell smoke in the distance. #clues

I put my mask on after they point out the air seems off.

Arachne sends “Vibe check” to April. Arachne gets the equivalent of a bunch of question marks. “By the way, is there some way I can actively contact you?”

Arachne tells us what’s going on. We tell her to tell April about the bad air, the weird sounds, and the flashing.

“No. Near Perfrind. Weird lights, weird sounds, bad air. Lights flash 3 times. Will message again tomorrow.” ^a0c75f

I point out to the group: “It’s odd that every group of creatures we see are heading north.” #clues

April says the strange air is normal. She’ll check in on weird lights and weird noises.
