Session Summary
We debate whether we can sneak before setting a distraction to clear out the town of Slaad. Wash gets a secret message from god, which he uses to lead the Slaad out of the town. We then search the houses and find some loot, including expensive paintings and jewelry. We rest overnight and discuss ways to distract the Slaad out of the government building, which Wash and Star manage with their birds. In the building it smells rotten. Wash uses Unseen Servant to explore, where 20 Slaads await in the Records Room.
Log
We debate whether we can sneak.
Elzara gets a Long Bow and 16 arrows from Wash.
We set a distraction and roll Stealth to see what they do.
6 red and 3 blue Slaad go to investigate. Only a few of the Slaad follow the birds.
Star uses Minor Illusion to create a sound which causes several more to follow.
Wash checks something with History. He gets a secret message from god. He says that the Slaad like human sounds so they start casting voices from the birds.
Wash is able to clear out a good chunk of the population. When he pings, he can tell some were left. It's only about 20 Slaad in one area, then another spread of 20 all around the town.
We head to the government building but check houses on the way.
Many of the houses seem ransacked. Shelves opened. Stuff knocked on the ground and broken. Most cupboards are opened and empty. Rarely, we can smell rotting food. There are some houses with remains in them. It’s not super common.
Most things of value seem to be broken or removed.
It’s about 6.30pm, as the town clearing strategy took a few hours.
Wash reminds us they have dark vision.
In one of the houses is a fancy looking coat. Elzira is interested in it. We decide to look into the house more thoroughly.
It looks like there is some fine furniture in this house. Wash can tell it was imported from other nations. There are two pieces of art on the wall that seem expensive. Wash knows it's worth at least a few hundred GP. He takes the two paintings.
I look for letters and evidence of business dealings. I find a desk. On the desk is a bowl with a pile of ashes in it. The desk is set up to store papers but has none anymore. I start looking for insignias or evidence of whatever set fire to the now-ash. There is a drawer that has a few pieces of jewelry. There is a necklace with diamond studs. There is a ring with an insignia on it and a bracelet. ^cb7259
I take the ring with the insignia and show the rest to the others.
Wash sets the art by the door where they’re easy to grab.
I keep an eye out for water. There is about a day’s worth of water in the current house for the entire party. I refill my waterskin.
We look for a spot to camp near the government building.
These places are pretty thoroughly cleaned out. None seem to have rotting food. There is less random garbage. It also appears some of these buildings used to be shops. Those are completely cleared out.
Arachne does a vibe check with April. “in Perfrind. lots of slaad. about to rest. will search government building tomorrow. found any info on lights and sounds?” The response: “I didn’t find anything yet on the light and sounds, still looking for stuff on those. Really cool you got to see Slaad in-”
Before bed, we do a CON save. (11 CON for me.)
Mechanics: The longer we spend here the more damage we take from the air.
Wash and Star both fail their saves. (1d8 damage)
We long rest.
In the morning Wash calls his bird back. After he pings, it seems some of the Slaad have started making their way back into the town. 20 have returned. The rest are also slowly heading back into town.
We debate how to distract all the Slaad out of the government building.
Star goes to try and open the front door. When he tries the door, he can tell it opens towards him. On the inside he can feel that something is holding it shut. He looks at some windows and finds curtains in them. He calls his bird between the glass and the window.
The curtain is really heavy. The hawk can get around the curtain but doesn’t have leverage to move it out of the way. From the light leading in there is a front desk. There is no Slaad visible in this room yet. To the two sides are doors that lead further into the building. It looks like there is something fastened to the door holding it shut, like a plank of wood. The building smelled really bad. Rotting.
Star sees a latch and has the bird remove the latch. He opens the window and opens the curtain. He comes back.
Wash uses a special feature to be completely silent to crowbar off the wooden piece keeping the doors closed. He opens the curtains further for as much light as possible. He can see the two inner doors which are closed as Star said. He casts Silence.
He’s finally able to get it off and open up the front doors. He walks around the side of the building and has his bird go inside the room. He casts Unseen Servant and has it open all the doors it can reach.
The servant goes in and the bird follows. It goes through and opens doors. There’s one door that when the servant goes to and if he pings, Wash can sense that the 20 Slaad are beyond this door. It is locked. He tells it to move on. There is a label on the wall next to the door that says “The Records Room.”
Of note:
- Locked door #clues
- Room on the second floor that has a skeleton
- A knife on the floor near the skeleton
- The paper on/near the knife has blood soaked into it
- A couple of other rooms look like they were storing stuff and there is rotting food
- There is another skeleton in another one of the rooms sitting in a chair
