Into the Gray

Session Summary

Star and Elzira return. Star quickly sets up traps to stop the incoming robots, while we all get into position. Wash opens the door, and we start firing as the first two robots walk out. Elzira deals a heavy hit with her fire bolt, but Twinkletoes and I both miss. Elzara turns giant and dodges, and I finally land a hit that destroys one of the robots. More robots spill out, and Wash and Elzara dodge the beams. Wash hits one for significant damage, while Star manages to take one down with a critical hit. However, the robots keep coming, and Elzara takes a lot of damage. Elzira casts a fireball, and Twinkletoes uses Shatter for an AOE attack. We manage to take out several of the robots, but more keep coming. Arachne uses her healing spells to revive Wash, and Star continues to fight with his bow. Despite the challenge, we continue to fight and dodge, taking out several more robots with our spells and attacks. After the battle, Arachne names the safe Steve with its permission and it expresses interest in the outside world.

Still in the New Dawn Warehouse

Star and Elzira return.

Star jumps into stealth and looks like a barrel after setting up traps to stop the robots on their way to us. 

We all get into position. 

Wash opens the door. Neither the turrets or robots shoot at each other. 

Nothing happens for a moment.

The first two robots walk out. The first one looks left, then right, as it looks to the right there is a whirring noise and the second one comes out looking out to its right. 

We all let off a round of shots. I miss with fire bolt. 

Normal initiative commences. Elzira hits with a fire bolt and 18 damage. 

Twinkletoes misses (13 attack roll). 

Elzara turns giant and dodges. GIANT 1

I NAT a fire bolt! This destroys one of the robots.

Arachne casts Sacred Flame.

Four of the turrets stand doing nothing. Two of them fire at the standing robot. The first hits 3 and the second hits 1. 

Wash keeps baja blasting for 17 damage. 

Star misses.

A blast comes out from the robot’s eyes. It aims at Elzara, who makes a DEX saving throw (17) with advantage. She is able to deftly get out of the way. The robot clambers over the turrets and is stuck right in front of the rope Star set up. 

The two turrets that were just firing follow the direction the robot was going in. 

More robots spill out into the hallway. Wash and Elzara both make 2 DEX saves. They both successfully dodge more beams.

Elzira hits with a Fire Bolt for 14 damage. 

Twinkletoes misses. 

Elzara keeps dodging. GIANT 2

I hit with a fire bolt for 14 damage. 

Arachne shoots more Sacred Flame.

The turrets attack. The upper right turret hits two arrows, taking down the robot in the front. Turret number two starts targeting Elzara. It hits, dealing 5 damage. 

Wash hits for 6 damage.

Star pulls out his long bow and CRITS. He deals 18+13 damage.

The robots keep going.  Wash and Elzara make DEX saving throws. They both fail… a lot. Wash takes 45 damage. He’s out. 35 damage to Elzara. More robots come out and start blasting at Elzara. She dodges from the next four attacks!

This has freaked out Elzira and he lets out a Fireball, dealing 33 damage (or halved). 

Twinkletoes casts Shatter for AOE, dealing 18 damage (or halved). 

Elzara takes more dodge actions. She uses Second Wind for 13 HP. GIANT 3

I miss a Fire Bolt. I sacrifice a Level 2 slot for 2 Sorcery Points. 

Arachne pops forward and back to Cure Wounds on Elzara (10 HP). 

Turrets have vision blocked. The turrets now shoot at robots. It takes out one of the robots.

Wash succeeds a death save. 

Star aims for the most dead looking robot. He misses and goes back into stealth. 

Elzara makes 7 DEX saving throws as the robots attack. She fails one and takes 24 damage. 

Two robots move forward and trip and fall. The middle one trips into the bear trap. It has clamped firmly, seeming to pin the robot's arms so it can’t do anything. Three more robots emerge. Elzara takes 46 damage. 

Elzira casts another Fire Ball for 30 damage (or halved). Many are close to going down.

Twinkletoes casts Shatter at a higher level for 18 damage, killing the two front robots and three behind them. Behind that, also two more robots. She then uses Healing Word on Elzara for 7 HP. This also grants Elzara advantage on her death saving throw.

Elzara passes a death saving throw. 

I quicken a Fire Bolt for 13 damage and hold Slow for the next 6 semi healthy robots I see. 

Arachne uses Spare the Dying on Wash and uses her bonus action to cast Healing Word on him for 8 HP. 

The turrets shoot at Arachne but she manages to dodge 3 out of 4 arrows, taking only 7 damage. She also gets hit by 2 small darts, taking 9 damage. 

Wash is now awake. He Misty Steps into the room nearby. 

Star shoots his bow and deals 26 damage. 

The robots step up… Star makes 2 DEX saving throws, Twinkletoes makes 1 DEX saving throw. Star dodges. So does Twinkletoes! Robots start scrambling over and towards us. The rest of the robots come tumbling into the 

Slow triggers and I aim for the healthiest robots. SLOW 1

Another 3 DEX saves from both Star and Twinkletoes. Star fails at least two. Twinkletoes manages to dodge all of them. Star takes 53 damage.

Elzira shoots off another Fireball for 25 damage (DC 16 halved). This takes down another robot.

Twinkletoes shoots her bow. She hits once for 8 damage. 

Elzara succeeds in a death saving throw. 

I cast Mirror Image on myself and quicken a fire bolt, killing one of the robots in front. MIRROR IMAGE 1, SLOW 2

Arachne decided to be insane and cast Spirit Guardian, excluding the turrets. 

Two turret arrows hit her for 5 damage. The robot right next to her got demolished by one of the turrets.

Wash sticks his head out the door and starts blasting. 

Star rolls a death saving throw. He succeeds!

Arachne deals 5 damage as the robots begin her turn. Arachne needs to make 6 DEX saving throws. She immediately goes down. 

Twinkletoes succeeds 1, 2, 3, 4 and then… 5 saving throws! The robots start scrambling to try and get over the turrets. Only one not slowed robot can make it over.

Elzira aims at the non-slowed bot for 15 damage.

Twinkletoes uses her crossbow but misses, the second hits for 8 damage!

Elzara makes another saving throw and NAT 1s which is two failures. 

I aim at the robot and deal 17 damage. SLOW 3

Arachne fails a death saving throw. 

The turrets focus fire and absolutely destroy the non slowed robot. 

Wash rushes out to drag Elzara into the room to stabilize her. He is unable to stabilize her. 

Star successfully makes a death saving throw. 

Twinkletoes dodges 1… 2… 3… but fails the fourth! She is lucky and tries again, SUCCESS! She makes the fifth save as well!

The robots move forward and one trips over the rope. 

Elzira shoots a Fire Bolt for 17 damage. 

I toss my Healer’s Kit to Twinkletoes for her to treat Elzara. She goes to stabilize Elzara. She does so! She stays hanging in the hallway. She uses Healing Word to grant Elzara 6 HP. 

Elzara takes the gun and steps out into the hallway. She shoots (9). Arachne rolls a luck roll (9). A massive beam fills the hallway, disintegrating everything in its path. Elzara manages not to hit Arachne, though she is very close. After the beam has passed, it seems like Arachne’s almost-corpse. The robots and turrets are all gone. There is also a hole in the wall she aimed at. 

I race over and use my Healer’s Kit to stabilize Arachne, and Twinkletoes heals her for 5 HP. Arachne stabilizes Star. 

It’s about 10 minutes since the fight started. 

Arachne checks whether the safe is good with being called Steve. She asks Steve about the gun. It asks what she means. She asks if Steve can see. He can kind of see. She finds out he was elsewhere for most of his life. He hasn’t really seen anything exciting. She tells him about the aftermath of the weapon. Steve asks her to tell him about the outside world. #relationships
