Session Summary

It is an intense battle with the creature in the hallway. Due to Blink I learn that it exists on both the material and the ethereal plane. Elzara uses the gem to blind it, but it seems able to dispell the effect. Twinkletoes is particularly dextrous, avoiding seemingly impossible-to-avoid magic fire. It is able to frighten most of us. Star gets creative and tries to tickle the creature, with great success! It frightens and deafens some of us, then paralyzes Twinkletoes. Just as all hope is lost, Star manages to get in a good hit and take it down.

Still in the New Dawn Warehouse

Wash misses two Baja Blasts and fades away. 

I am a little bit terrified and cast Blink on myself. I vanish into the Ethereal Plane. Normally the Ethereal Plane looks like it's viewed through a mist. The creature looks exactly the same instead of faded out like it should. SLOW 2 BLINK 1

Elzara turns Giant as a bonus action and then walks around the corner. She holds the special gem above her head and says “Blind them.” A blinding light shines into its eyes and there is an awful guttural screeching noise. It appears to be blinded.

Arachne peeks around the corner and casts Spiritual Weapon at the Creature, dealing 5 damage. She then casts Blink. BEACON 2 SPIRITUAL WEAPON 1 BLINK 1

Star runs into the hall and aims for the eye. He shoots, but misses (16).

Elzira steps into the hallway and casts Fireball. It deals 29 damage (halved). 

Twinkletoes casts Shatter for 10 Thunder damage. 

The creature attempts to cast something. Its eye opens up wide again. It seems no longer blinded. It slowly approaches Elzara. It also is no longer Slowed.

I blink back into existence. I Fey Step to the other side of the Creature, dealing 4 Fire Damage. I attempt to thwack it with my staff and then run 40ft down the hallway. I do not blink back out of existence. BLINK 2

Elzara swings twice and hits once with a crit! She deals 10+4+5+5 damage! She invokes her Fire Rune. It does not take effect. She is frustrated and Action Surges. She swings twice more, hitting once and dealing 9+6 damage. 

Arachne comes around the corner and swings her Spiritual Weapon but misses. She casts Mirror Image. She does not blink into the Ethereal Plane. BEACON 3 SPIRITUAL WEAPON 2 BLINK 2

Elzara makes a strength contest at the end of Arachne’s turn. She’s able to stop the Creature from pushing forward. It appears to be finishing a spell. Elzara, Twinkletoes, and Arachne are engulfed by a magical flame. They make a DEX saving throw. Twinkletoes CRITs but everyone else fails pretty hard. They take 22 damage each. Elzara crit failed and takes an extra 7 damage. 

Star runs around and manages to hit for 12+11 damage. HEX deals 2 damage.

Elzira casts Fireball for 16 damage but the Creature seems to avoid the entire hit. 

Twinkletoes shoots twice and hits once (20), dealing 9 piercing damage and she backs up. She inspires me! Bardic Inspiration: 1d8

The Creature makes a horrible noise. It is horrifyingly loud. It would be frightening. Thanks to Beacon of Hope we all have advantage on WIS saving throw. Elzara (15), Twinkletoes (13), me (17), Elzira (18), Arachne (26), Star (17). Only Elzira and Arachne are not frightened. 

I cast Mirror Image on myself and step back 15 feet. I shoot a fire bolt but miss. I blink into the Ethereal Plane and am no longer frightened. BLINK 3 MIRROR IMAGE 1

Elzara swings twice and hits both times!! She deals 14+11 damage. She is no longer afraid. However, the Creature attacks with a tentacle for 15 damage. 

Arachne heals Elzara for 19 HP and herself for 7 HP. At the end of Arachne’s turn a tentacle attacks Elzara but fumbles and misses. BEACON 4 SPIRITUAL WEAPON 3 BLINK 3

Star casts Mage Hand and tries to tickle the creature. HE NAT20S DOUBLE! As he attempts to tickle the Creature, we hear a strange noise emit from it, you’d almost describe it as like purring but a hell creature… it is deeply unsettling. Star is still frightened.

Elzira casts Flaming Sphere, for 5 damage or halved (DC 16). 

Twinkletoes inspires Arachne with Bardic Inspiration. She is still frightened. The Creature swings again at Elzara and misses. 

The Creature continues purring. It swings at Elzara twice but continues to miss. It takes 5 damage or halved from Flaming Sphere.

I twin Chromatic Orb and deal 12 damage. I move forward to be within 25ft of range for hitting and use my bonus action to extend my staff to 10ft range. I blink into the Ethereal Plane. BLINK 4 MIRROR IMAGE 2

Elzara swings and hits twice, due to the tickling. She deals 9+5+4+2. The Creature swings and misses again.

Arachne swings her Spiritual Weapon and deals 11 Force damage! She heals Elzara 11 HP again. The Creature swings at Elzara and hits, dealing 21 damage. BEACON 5 SPIRITUAL WEAPON 4 BLINK 4

Star continues trying to tickle. He doesn’t do a great job, but is no longer frightened!

Elzira’s thing deals 4 damage.

Twinkletoes heals Arachne for 8 HP. Still frightened. 

Elzara gets attacked again but the Creature misses. 

The Creature screams even more horrifying and we can literally feel it running down our spine. More WIS saves: everyone fails except Arachne (20) and Star (19). 

For not previously frightened: Now frightened and deafened (1 minute). Me, Elzara, Elzira.

If frightened: Now also paralyzed. Twinkletoes.

Elzara uses her Bonus Action for Second Wind for a guaranteed 16 HP thanks to Beacon of Hope. The Creature attacks her again for 21 damage. 

Arachne uses Level 1 healing for Elzara, 11 HP. She swings her sword again for 8 damage. She blinks to another plane. BEACON 6 SPIRITUAL WEAPON 5 BLINK 5

Star uses a +1 arrow. He hits! He deals 19+10+1 and 3 damage from Hex.

Elzira’s Flaming Sphere deals 11 damage or halved. Elzira is no longer frightened. 

Twinkletoes fails a WIS saving throw and is paralyzed. 

The Creature makes another scream, and it feels more physical. If we are deafened, we feel it not hear it. It is so strong that it tries to knock us over. CON save. 

Twinkletoes, Star, Elzira, and myself take 31 damage. Arachne takes 16 damage. Star and Arachne both maintain their spells (Beacon and Hex). 

It moves away from the Flaming Sphere, Elzara gets an Opportunity Attack. She deals it 11+6 damage.

I flail and fail to hit twice even with Quickening Green Flame Blade. I fail my WIS save and do not blink into the other plane. BLINK 6 MIRROR IMAGE 4

The Creature respawns the fire pillar, which takes down Elzara. She succeeds in a Death Save. 

Arachne uses Spare the Dying on Elzara. She casts Healing Word which is 7 HP for everyone! Elzara is back up. BEACON 7 SPIRITUAL WEAPON 6 BLINK 6

Star hits it! Dealing 25 damage. It goes down!!!
