Session Summary

We drink at a pub and talk about befriending the Disco Thief. People think that is a hilarious idea. I say it’s because he’s a genius and I want to hear about his experiences. I say I don’t want to imitate him, but I am told it is the sincerest form of flattery. We meet Kai for breakfast, Wash is not there. We ask for tools to dig 5 miles down in Perfrind. We talk about the Disco Thief as being our lead in Trin. Arachne shows the GOTTEM note. Arachne asks about potential batteries for Steve. We each get paid 175gp. I buy a funk robot.

Log

“We’re gonna go find the Disco Thief in Trin, what do you know about him?” I turn to the next table.

“We’re gonna kill him!” Star starts slurring.

I get some weird looks. People are looking a little weirdly at Star. “No, no,” I wave him off, “We’re gonna be friends.”

People wave us away. This continues for the first nearby tables.

Then there is a bemused party. “You’re going to befriend the Disco Thief, are you?”

“Yes… he is a genius.”

“How are you meeting him?”

“I don’t know… I was hoping you could help me.”

“What do you know about the Disco Thief?”

“Same as you! He pulls off hilarious schemes and leaves behind a shiny ball and a song!”

“What are your plans with the Disco Thief? What will you do when you hang out?”

I say we’ll just talk cause I want to hear about his experiences.

“You think that because of the heists has pulled off, is that it?”

“I don’t know about any heists… I just know he’s got a cool legend and I want to hear about it.”

“You should get the Disco Thief’s attention…” Enter gesticulation. “You know how he leaves behind a song.” Basically imitate.

“I don’t want to step on his toes… that is his signature!”

“Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. I can’t think of a more sincere way to show how much the Disco Thief has moved you.”

The man just seems extremely bemused. The rest of his table is cracking. I have fallen into deep thought.

Another party member says they want to hear my own songs of my own adventures. With a twinkle in their voice. The party leaves with a loud laughter.

Star thinks this is all very excellent.

We go to bed and it is the 5th of Threet, 5372.

Everyone wakes up in the morning. I make a CON save for a hangover but I am doing quite well.

At breakfast is a familiar face. It’s Kai!

“You missed Wash,” says Arachne.

“I’ve been missing Wash a lot.”

He asks if we have any good leads for facilities to check out.

“Not unless you have the means to dig 5 miles down…” says Star.

“I don’t have anything like that, but maybe I could find something with my connections. What was your lead in Trin?”

“We’re after the Disco Thief.”

“I think he was smuggling during the war,” I add on.

“You’re saying… that there is a person who was active pre-war and you’re hoping to use them because they might have information. Is there a reason they would know where specific facilities are?”

I explain that we found a disco ball arrow in the location of what we believe was a smuggler’s ring and so it seems like he’d have that kind of information.

Arachne enters the conversation with, “We found this there.” She slides over the note that says:

2022-01-16 Gottem

“You’re hoping that the person who wrote this is the same person and knows about other places and interesting artifacts?”

“Yes.” I answer.

“Any ideas on how you’ll connect with him?”

Star says we have a few ideas, either imitation or our own calling card. Elzira might make something talk.

Kai says to use extreme caution with magic in Trin.

“Do our magic licenses count there for anything?” I ask.

“They might get you in less trouble, but Trin is a bit more strict than here. I already know stuff has cropped up with you guys.”

Twinkletoes just sighs.

Ideally we’ll only be in town as long as it takes to track him. Hopefully it doesn’t go to Kansem, because there they are awful about it.

Star asks if Kai knows anything about magical batteries.

  • Find out if Kai can find something to dig under Perfrind
  • Find out if Kai can find something to store and dispense energy ✅ 2023-05-09
  • Befriend the Disco Thief ✅ 2023-05-09
  • Ask the Disco Thief about other places we can explore
  • Ask the Disco Thief about artifacts we can find

Kai finally asks why we’d need the battery.

Arachne casts Guidance on herself and manages to do so undetectably while trying to determine whether he’s trustworthy to tell about Steve the Safe.

She decides he’s trustworthy. She explains the Steve situation.

“There are probably a lot of people who would pay a lot for that.”

Arachne scowls. “I’d appreciate if you didn’t tell anyone about it until we can ask the safe what it wants. For now, it says it would like to stay with one of our friends.”

“That’s fine with me, I’ll still help with the battery.” Kai points out.

“To be clear, no money should exchange hands until the safe has said it is okay,” Arachne says.

“Is selling people become natural to you?” Star asks.

“Mmm, I am not going to lie, I find it hard to believe there is a truly sentient safe, I’m saying that if you have a lonely and bored person who you can hook up with someone who just wants someone to hang out with, and that person is willing to pay for that connection, that’s a great way to solve the problem.”

Arachne expresses her distrust.

Kai reminds everyone not to get excited as he is respecting these feelings.

We returned things from Perfrind and expect to get paid. “And if this isn’t enough, I’m sure we can collect more soon,” I say.

Kai says he’ll get it to some sellers, so he’ll pay us out now. He proceeds to give us each 175gp. We definitely procured interesting and rare items. #income

This brings my wallet to 409gp 7sp 8cp

I continue holding onto the Fear Gas Vials.

We decide to meet with Kai on the 12th in Trin for breakfast.

“Why are you digging?”

Arachne gets frustrated and uses Thaumaturgy to make her eyes glow and hair fly through the wind as Kai seems to be dismissing her answer.

Kai appreciates her passion. “I, um, you have the least specific god I have ever heard of.” He teases that she can’t get much information out of her god despite being one of the few remaining people who can communicate with the gods.

I ask if there’s somewhere we can send word if it turns out we need more time. “Are you familiar with the mail system?” he scribbles something down. "Just send it to the post office here. If before the 10th you know you need more time, send that note here. They’ll hold it at the post office and I’ll pick it up there.“

“Do you think it’s one person using illusion magic or a bunch of people acting as one?” Arachne asks. My eyes light up.

Kai says he hopes it’s just one person for our sake, and why they took a 50 year break. He doubts its the same person.

“Alright, I’ll head off and see you in Trin.”

I want to check out the funk robot. I would be aware that the floating disco ball and underneath it is a funk robot singing a song. It is a song talking about the wrongdoings that made them a target.

What happens is: The disco thief buys a funk robot, teach it a song that explains all the bad things the person did, and puts it underneath the disco ball dancing and singing.

The floating disco ball is totally unique.

Twinkletoes has interacted with a funk robot.

I go to buy the funk robot for 100gp at the general store and head over to April.

Twinkletoes and I will write a song to friendly taunt him with the robot.

We go to see what April knows. “There are a bunch of random smatterings I’ve found. Like me summarize:”

  • A thing that goes about robbing people who have wronged others for reasons
  • Writes a song about it
  • Has a floating shining ball in the air
  • A dancing singing reasons saying why they were robbed

That’s the thing that stays the same.

A lot of accounts, here’s this book from a long time ago, 70 years old?

This looks to be at the time what would have been all of the cases of the Disco Thief striking. What’s interesting is that even in here it’s evident that there aren’t a lot of these cases that have people who have claimed to seen the thief. Not a single one of them has the same description.

We do now have a book that is a compilation of the Disco Thief’s achievements. It was written 70-100 years ago. They are rare claims. Each claims has a different description. Sometimes looking like a man, woman, androgynous, tall, short, fat, skinny. Every time is totally different.

We check in with April, Henderson, the Planetars, and the safe before leaving. The teleporter has 8 charges left.

Name of our song: “Dots for the Disco Thief”
