Into the Gray

Session Summary

We continue our journey towards Trin and set up camp midway to town once night falls, taking turns to watch for any danger. During my shift, I hear a large group approaching from the south, so I climb a tree to investigate. I spot a herd of about 30 owlbears heading towards us, and they seem agitated and aggressive. Arachne advises us to wait quietly, but the owlbears start attacking the trees, and we have to defend ourselves. Wash uses some clever distractions to split the herd and make them more manageable.

Wash appears from the shadows as we are leaving for Trin. I start showing Wash my funk bot and he peaces out.

There’s a night and rest without event.

For a while we hear nothing, then some burrowing in the distance. Star tries to figure out what it is. Off in the distance it appears to be the gray burrowing creatures we’ve seen before (Sand Sharks).

As we walk, Arachne looks out for similar markings.

The day passes uneventfully. I prepare rations for everyone in the evening, just above average.

We continue down the road. As the day begins to turn to evening and the sun disappears, Wash pops back up into view. This is about halfway. We set up camp on the side of the ride.

An hour into my shift, to the left side of the road I think I hear what sounds like a large group of something heading our way. It sounds off the road to the south off the trees.

I attempt to get the birds to go check it out but they do not.

I decide to go climb up a tree quietly to see what I can see. When I get to the top of the tree and look south, I can see a group - maybe 30 owlbears - all traveling in a group.

I watch for as long as I can.

When they get about 50ft away from the tree line. They start seeming agitated at this point. They are very irritated and have slowed down, now snarling and approaching the treeline. As they get closer, they get more agitated and begin spreading out amongst the trees.

They inch a bit closer and start roaring and snarling.

I go down the tree and go to tell Arachne what’s going on approximately. “A herd… of owlbears?”

I explain.

She advises we sit and wait quietly, which we do.

A few more minutes pass.

Off to the west, we start seeing Owlbears popping through the trees. They seem like something is wrong, they seem itchy and jittery, hitting the trees. At this point they seem like they’re attacking the trees themselves. As if in compulsive behavior. The trees are scratched up but not completely ruined.

Wash wakes up and sees what’s happening, awaking the rest of the group.

A group of Owlbears seems to go west, another across the road.

Wash’s birds attempt to bother the owlbears. This seems relatively successful, except that they’re very slowly making their way over.
