Mentions: Disco Thief

Session Summary

We set up a plan to draw out the Disco Thief by acting out as the thief and his victims with the funk bot. Twinkletoes did an amazing job performing while we gained plenty of attention. Star and Arachne posed as salespeople and unsuccessfully try to extract information from the woman who had been reading. The next day, we met with Wash and Orna to investigate the missing items. We examined the room, and I investigate the locks with my magnifying glass, finding no signs of forced entry. Arachne saw a small bit of magic from a piece of pottery after nailing a stealth cast of Detect Magic. Wash saw footprints coming through a window, and I noticed that the window was not designed to be opened.

Log

For lunch Twinkletoes and I execute our plan to draw out the Disco Thief. We set up the funk bot and decide to act out as the thief and his victims. I incorporate a cipher in to the song to say that we think the thief is cool and want to meet them. We swap roles. We set out a hat for coins. Twinkletoes is performing the hell out of this. People are captivated by Twinkletoes. I do fine but am not as captivating. On the whole, we gather plenty of attention.

Wash learns about his foot sniffer.

Star and Arachne go back to the house where Star walked through the walls. They will pose as sales people.

They knock. “One moment!” Comes from the house. Inside, a soft, “Did you invite somebody over? I don’t think anyone is supposed to be here.” “I didn’t invite anyone over.”

A moment later: The door opens. The woman gives a quick once over. “Hey there, is there something I can help you with?” This is the woman who had been reading.

Star introduces himself as a salesman and incorporates thieves cant into his introduction. The lady is confused about the concept of door to door salespeople. He starts explaining that they are doing market research, and continues incorporating thieves cant.

She is not responding in thieves cant.

They move into discussing the pets toys. They do not have pets. They keep referring to their pet that passed away recently.

Star pushes on sharing an inspirational quote. It’s the life is a box of chocolates quote. He manages to be very compelling with it.

This concludes the conversation.

It is then evening, we do dinner together. I can hear some chatter about the performance. There was a good performer but then an incredible performer.

Bed!

Wash sets a code word for leaving quickly if things are getting dangerous. We decide we’ll talk about watermelons being season.

We’ll talk about the busking if things are interesting.

Thursday! We breakfast and separate from Wash to head to the house. I want to run to the market for a monocle or magnifying glass. The magnifying glass costs 100gp and I bring it with me, I wear my fine clothes. If the funk robots are in good shape I might be able to resell them. #items #costs #shopping

We pass the usual guard. I lean in with my magnifying glass and say “You look like you could use a tip!” I hand him a silver coin. #costs #relationships

As we enter the house: We can see Wash is already standing with Orna as we enter the room, ready to start the investigation.

Wash and her exchange snide remarks about us being entertaining.

I try to be pompous and official. I ask why the Disco Thief says he targeted her. The robot is in storage as evidence. Orna says the given reason is libel about embezzlement. Other stuff about corrupt deals. The target would be public funds. She says she has done much to help the city. #clues

She is so offended by these claims.

She leads us to the room which is missing the most. There is a large room with display shelves behind glass. None of the glass is broken. Almost all the shelves lay empty.

I ask for a ledger of the missing items. She hands Wash a folder, “He can share it with you, if he wishes!”

Wash does indeed harumph at me but hands it to me. I look for items from the warehouse. It is mostly unique stuff. The only thing that might have been in the warehouse would be the mention of a valuable tea set. The set itself is not described.

I am not able to find any other pattern for what was stolen. All the things seemed unique and valuable and that’s all I can find.

Star can’t figure out much about getting in and out of the room.

Wash learns things from the list but it’s secret.

I investigate locks that might have been picked with my magnifying glass. I specifically do not see signs of forced entry. The sort of thing where if the locks were picked, it was done expertly. I ask how many keys there are to the cabinets. Both keys are currently accounted for.

Arachne sees a small bit of magic from a piece of pottery afer nailing a stealth cast of Detect Magic. It’s some kinf of barrier or protection magic.

Wash sees footprints coming through a window. He follows the footprints around the house.

I check the window sill with my magnifying glass. The window is fairly high up. I ask Star for a boost as there is no chair. There is smothered laughter from the entrance. I make it up to the ledge. I notice it looks like someone dusted up here recently. I make a very good show of being mysterious. The window is not designed to be opened.

“Did our fledgling detectives find some evidence?”

“Sometimes, it’s not what you find, but what you don’t.” I saw sagely. #quotes
