Into the Gray

Session Summary

We complete our investigation. Orna indicates she knows Arachne used magic and advices caution with thinly veiled threats. Our clues include a broken magic pottery, easily bypassed glass, dirt outside a window, and and overly cleaned window on the inside. Kamal and Liana are at the top of the suspect list.

As Arachne pokes around the room, Orna points out that she knows she has a magical look.

They exchange snarky remarks.

I wander off to see the rest of the house.

Star investigates windows in hallways. He asks me to lift him up. I manage to be useful even though I’m not super strong. The windows seem extremely normal.

The rug is an oval, outer ring is light blue, then gray tan, then the center is another light blue.

I get the general layout of the house. When I go outside, the main room juts out over a garden. This creates a shaded area of the garden.

I head to the garden area to investigate further.

While looking around the only thing I can notice, underneath the overhang of the window it almost looks like someone had even walked on the wall.

I try to subtly point this out to Wash with his foot detector. I do not do a great job at being subtle.

Wash generally ignores me. Orna starts laughing.

The ground shows on additional signs of strange activity.

Wash begins investigating walls more closely.

The hour is up for the rest of us.

“Did you find anything interesting for me today?” Orna asks.

“Nothing conclusive, just puzzles to put together.”

Orna says she has a more pressing question for us. She wants to know where our other friend is. (Elzira had disappeared in a flash of light.)

I attempt to at genuinely confused by her questioning. “Who came with us that is not here now?”

“I am sure you are all aware that magic is not allowed in this town,” looking at Arachne, “How do I put this… I believe you have used, perhaps, you know, no magic had been used here today. If it was, only with the purest of intentions. If need be, I might be willing to reveal otherwise should that come up. I would hope that you do not give me reason to believe otherwise. I would advise you keep that in mind as you move forward during your visit.”

We all vaguely agree and say we understood.

She also says she doesn’t want a mysterious person appearing later (referring to Elzira).

We are escorted off by extra personel.

I chat it up with one of them about favorite local bars and my interview the next day.

What we know:

• Orna knew Arachne cast magic
• The broken magic pottery with barrier magic
• The window glass and glass casing was easily bypassed
• There was dirt near the window outside
• The indoor part of the window was especially clean
• Two sets of footprints, one in the house/one outside
• Kamal and Liana are suspected of framing Orna or stealing themselves
• Last deep cleaning of the house was a week ago

Wash gives us assignments to check in on some suspects. Kamal and Liana.

He finds footprints in the Buzzed Beetle, which is where I met the cult that wants to interview me tomorrow.

Star and I go to hang out at the Buzzed Beetle. Star pretends poorly to be drunk and brings the feet sniffer. He tries actually getting drunk but really is just annoying people and causing complaints. He is politely asked to leave.

I do not see any of the business cult people while I am there. While I’m drinking, I talk about being Orna’s prestigious guest today. People keep talking about how there was such an annoying guy (Star) earlier.

Arachne wants to go diving for a nearby orb.
